Such OLD PLANS!

When we bought our current home, the main room (with the coal stove) was in dire need of work. The plaster along the ceiling was broken in most places, due to the wiring work the previous owners had done. I knew we were not going to get to the repairs "soon", so within the first year of living here, I decorated the rest of the room to match the pale yellow paint that was on the walls already. I made slip covers for the two wing-back chairs we had from Curt's grand-parents, and I made my own tapestry drapes with valences. I also bought seat cushion pads for the dining room chairs, with plans to make seat cushions to match the wing-back chairs.

That was all about 10 years ago.

This past summer, we finally made the repairs to that room, and painted it a beautiful lavender grey. The drapes are gone. The slip-covers I made are filthy, torn up from the two cats we used to have, and no longer match the color scheme of the room.

Despite all that...today I started the project to make the seat cushions for the dining room chairs. ;)  The foam is 10 years old *already* and has been in my attic most of that time. I don't know how much more life it has before it breaks down entirely, so I'm not planning on these cushions lasting more than a few years.

I cut a cardboard template of the seat, then trimmed the foam to the right size. I made a prototype cover out of some cheap cotton to get the "fit" right, and found some nice navy-blue fabric that the final products will be covered with. It is in the laundry now...

While I was waiting for that fabric to wash, I cut out the pieces for SA's new cloak, which was item #4 on my list last year.  (I did finish #1 on that list, but am postponing #3 until I have more time, and I totally forgot #2 was next).

If you don't know this about me, I have this habit of cutting "two left sleeves". This means, I have frequently - far too many times to count - cut two pieces of fabric the same that should be opposite. I did this *again* with SA's cloak.  It was supposed to be parti-colored fleece. I didn't think there was going to be a "right and wrong" side to this fabric, but I was wrong. Now it's going to just be a half-red, half-orange cloak.

My phone battery was too dead to take pictures today. I'll post more next time!
